Pilot studies. Pilot studies are carried out before the conventional trial in order to ensure the effect of the intervention and the feasibility of the study.

Risk meassurement in an open cohort. In longitudinal studies with an open cohort, with incorporation and lost of participants, incidence rate is the measure to estimate risk.

Frequency measures. The concepts of proportion, ratio and rate are reviewed, as well as the differences between the three frequency measures.

Randomization. Randomization favors that the characteristics of the participants are distributed homogeneously among the groups.
